Rapp-it is suitable for use on many types of pipes and hoses used in the mining industry. This includes waste pipes, underflow pipes, and processing lines that are used in nickel processing facilities. Abrasive materials are commonly found in underflow pipes, and can damage the integrity of the pipe.
SCOPE
Our customer advised they experienced several holes in their underflow pipes that carry coarse material including rocks up to 2mm in size. Due to the nature of the product, and the speed and pressure it goes through, pipes often wear out, requiring regular repairs. The leaks cause a horrible mess that can sometimes take hours to clean up. The customer estimates they use Rapp-it Bandages sometimes twice a day to repair pipes like this.
SOLUTION
The customer reduced the pressure of the pipe and cleaned and roughened the damaged area. The leak was firstly stemmed with Rapp-it Steel Putty, and multiple Rapp-it Bandages were then applied over the top. The customer estimated that up to 300 bandages have been applied to this pipe alone. After just 30 minutes, Rapp-it was rock hard and the leak was contained, saving thousands of dollars in costly downtime.
